Vespers for the 3nd Sunday after Easter

Join us at Immaculate Conception church to celebrate Vespers of Easter time. The risen Christ is about to leave the disciples and return to the Father. But when He returns in glory, we shall rejoice at His coming. This mystery is presented for us to meditate upon in the traditional Vespers liturgy in Gregorian chant.

Vespers for the 14th Sunday after Pentecost
with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament

Hebdomadary: Rev. Deacon James Stanley

The Lord's message is clear: let us strive first to obtain what is eternal and cannot be taken away from us. If we do that, all the rest we need will be given to us  in due order. How can we better internalize that than through the timeless melodies of Gregorian chant? Come and join us on Sunday for Vespers at St. John of the Cross.

St. Jerome (347-420) is famous especially for his translation of the Bible from the Hebrew into Latin.  He was also an accomplished theologian, ascetic, and spiritual director for prominent Roman ladies. He rightfully gained the title of Doctor of the Church. We are happy to celebrate the feast of this great saint with the Traditional Latin Mass at St. John the Evangelist in Encinitas. Do join us!

Join us at St. John of the Cross church in Lemon Grove to celebrate traditional Vespers in Gregorian chant!  Thus writes St. Hilary of  Poitiers (c. 300 – c. 368)  about the healing  of the paralytic, which we find in the Gospel of the 18th Sunday after Pentecost: In this paralytic the whole Gentile world is offered for healing, he is therefore brought by the ministration of Angels; he is called Son, because he is God’s work; the sins of his soul which the Law could not remit are remitted him; for faith only justifies. Lastly, he shews the power of the resurrection, by taking up his bed, teaching that all sickness shall then be no more found in the body.

Sung Votive Mass of St. Philip Neri
in the Traditional Roman Rite

Because of circumstances beyond our control, we could not celebrate the feast day of our holy patron, St. Philip Neri, on May 26. Therefore we honor him belatedly with a votive sung Mass. This Traditional Latin Mass  will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist church in Encinitas. The brothers will sing the proper and ordinary in Gregorian chant. Please join us.
